Tips for A Sun Safe Summer

You already know how important sun protection is during the summer and year round. You know how to choose a sunscreen. Here are some more tips for making sure you have a sun safe summer. Your skin and your overall health will thank you later.

Overall Tips

With skin cancer rates on the rise the Skin Cancer Foundation offers a number of important tips in order to make sure you stay sun safe over the summer and throughout the year:

  • Do not burn
  • Seek shade especially between 10 am to 4 pm
  • Cover-up with clothing, hats, and UV blocking sunglasses
  • Apply broad spectrum sunscreen everyday before going outdoors
  • Keep infants in the shade
  • Perform skin self examinations and see a doctor for a mole check

The American Cancer Society has an easy way to remember how to keep yourself protected:

  • Slip! Slop! Slap! and Wrap
  • Slip on a shirt
  • Slop on sunscreen
  • Slap on a hat
